Young adults will play a significant role at the 2018 Novi Sad General Assembly of the Conference of European Churches. Coming from various churches in Europe, they will bring together the uniqueness of their Christian traditions, spirituality and culture.
Exploring the striking theme of the General Assembly “You shall be my witnesses”, these young adults will contribute their vision of witness, justice and hospitality and what it means to them as young Christians, active in developing a positive future for Europe.
These young adults aged between 18-30 years will participate at the General Assembly in capacity of delegates, stewards and advisors.
Pre-Assembly Youth event
The first three days before the General Assembly will be dedicated to the Pre-Assembly Youth event. The event will contribute to the ecumenical formation of young participants. With experts in the field, the event will provide an overview of ecumenical relations in Europe. Lectures, discussions and activities at the Youth Pre-Assembly will introduce participants to the place of CEC within the broader ecumenical movement, key ecumenical concerns and programmes of CEC, its members and partners.
The event will also provide practical information concerning the life and overall running of the General Assembly to ensure positive participation of young adults.
The young participants will be offered possibilities for community-building and networking during the different sessions and social events.
Part of the event, which will harvest and articulate fresh perspectives on the Assembly theme, will be dedicated to the preparation of the General Assembly Plenary on the Future of Europe.
Central to the Pre-Assembly Youth event is prayer and Bible study. The event will expose participants to the variety of spiritualties and liturgical expressions in Europe in order to foster understanding of diversity and inspire respect for differences.
The Stewards’ Programme is central to the overall smooth running of the General Assembly. Stewards will contribute to different areas of work, such as prayer, documentation, communications, language services and floor management.
The Stewards Programme will bring together 50 young adults from different parts of Europe.
The programme is designed to give opportunity to young people to work in a diverse environment, learn about the work of the European churches and enhance their strengths.
